Do Swimming Pools and Hot Tub / Spas

Increase the Value and Sell of Your Home?

The average price of a hot tub is approximately $5,000, which means they are not “cheap” investments, even though a hot tub or spa isn’t as expensive as remodeling your kitchen, bathroom or even installing a new inground swimming pool.  It is because hot tubs / spas do cost so much that countless homeowners believe that installing one will increase the value of their homes.  One of the first five questions I’m always asked is will they get back all the money they invested in the hot tub/spa if or when they sell their home.  The truth is that there is absolutely not rule for how much installing a hot tube or spa will increase the value in your home, if it even will.  When considering a hot tub /spa do not look at it as adding value to your home, or that you will recoup the entire cost including the cost of installation, but instead of something that will provide you and your family with physical pleasure and relaxation.

Hot tubs and spas as well as swimming pools can certainly make potential buyers desire your home over another home that does not have a hot tub, or swimming pool.  However, unlike swimming pools, cleaning and maintaining a hot tub isn’t as much of a chore.  If there is a downside to owning a hot tub, it will be having all of your friends and neighbors wanting to come over all the time to enjoy it, if you call that a downside.

If you are considering selling your home, and do not have a hot tub, then take a close look at area you live.  If the majority of homes that are similar to yours have hot tubs, then speak to your real estate agent about whether or not you should consider having one installed.  However, again I want to stress that by doing so, does not guarantee the sale of your home or that you will increase the value of your home.

However, there is not way to second-guess what will make some people want a particular home over another.  The bottom line, if you want a hot tub to help relieve tired and achy muscles or because you like to entertain, and a hot tub appeals to you, then by all means, install one that is to your liking and enjoy the pleasures that it will provide.  In this way, a hot tub is a very good investment.
