The Cost of a Swimming Pool

Inground Vs. Aboveground Pools

The first decision one has to make when thinking about installing a swimming pool is rather you want an in ground pool or an aboveground pool.  Most homeowners, and families first decide on a pool to provide fun, relaxation, as well as exercise.  Deciding on a pool is the easy part, deciding if it should be an aboveground or an in ground pool can be difficult.  The purpose of this article is to help you make the correct choice for you and your family.

The average cost of an aboveground pool ranges from $1500.00 to $5000.00 depending on the size as well as additional options chosen.  As you probably guessed, it is the less expensive price that is the aboveground pool’s biggest benefit.  Another huge benefit of the aboveground pool is that it is also much easier to install.  To save even more money, many homeowners opt to install the aboveground pool themselves, whereas many more forgo the extra savings and opt for professional installers.

The price of an in ground pool will typically ranging from $7000.00 to well over $45000.00.  As with the aboveground pools, the price of an in ground pool will vary according to the size of the pool and the different amenities you choose.  If you decide to go with an in ground pool, you must also decide what type of in ground pool you want, such as vinyl-lined, concrete, or fiberglass.  The most expensive type of in ground pool is the custom poured concrete lined pool.  Custom poured concrete lined pools can be poured in nearly any shape or size desired.

In addition to deciding what type of in ground pool you want, most pool owners also make the decisions of whether or not they want their pool heated.  If they choose to have a heated in ground pool, then they have to decide if they want solar heating or standard heating.  For solar heated pools, the pool contractor must insure that the pool is installed in a location where it receives the maximum amount of exposure to the sun.  However, it is important to remember that many solar heating systems can be installed in a day and can also be fitted after the swimming pool has been installed.  The average cost of installing a solar pool heating system is approximately $3000 and with routine low-maintenance can last up to 20 years.

However, before you or your contractor start preparing your yard for your pool, you must understand all codes and regulations governing the building of pools, decks, or pool houses in your area.  In addition, if you reside in a code-restricted neighborhood, then you also must consult with your local homeowners association.  By knowing, understanding, and following the building codes and regulations in your area, you can avoid any unnecessary fines as well as any construction problems later on.
