Shopping For Your New Hot Tub / Spa

Once you’ve decided to purchase a hot tub spa, the next tough decision many people have is deciding what type of hot tub to purchase.  Hot tub spas can be found in nearly any shape and size you can imagine, from large enough to accommodate numerous individuals at the same time to small enough to provide you with just the right amount of relaxation.

When shopping for a hot tub, you will quickly learn that there are several common names used today for hot tubs and spas.  In fact, to many people, both terms mean the same, as does whirlpool and Jacuzzi to mean any in ground or aboveground tub that has heated jets.  However, Jacuzzi is a trademarked name of a company that manufactures and produces whirlpool bathtubs and spas.

When considering a hot tub spa, perhaps you should decide on whether or not you want your hot tub to be in ground or aboveground, as the price difference will be considerable.  In ground hot tubs and spas, require a more expensive construction installation method.  Most aboveground spas have the advantage of being portable, if you want to take them with you if you move.

Because of this, you will frequently hear aboveground or self-contained spas referred to as portable spas.  These hot tubs or spas require very little to set up, with most requiring only an electrical outlet to be functional.  However, countless individuals do construct decks or even rooms for their portable spa to add more privacy, whereas others simply place them either inside and outside depending on their like or dislike, making portable spa extremely flexible in use.

The next step in choosing a spa is deciding what features you want.  Hot tubs are available with or without contoured seats, built in radios, CD players, DVD players etc.  However, when considering all the special features you want, make sure that you pay close attention to the water heater itself.  The heating units of aboveground and portable spas often run on electricity, which can range from 1.5 KW up to 11.5 KW.  The difference of wattage has to do with the heating systems as more powerful heaters will heat up faster, thus require more electricity.

A permanent or in ground spa can use either electric or LP gas, depending on the model.  Which is less expensive to use, actually depends on where you live and the temperature you have your water set.  Initially, electrical heaters have proven to cheaper to buy and operate, however, many believe that LP gas heaters are less expensive to operate from day-to-day use.

When purchasing your hot tub, make sure that you buy it from a company with an established reputation who specializes specifically in selling hot tubs and spas.  You do not want to purchase your hot tub or spa from a business that only sales them as a sideline.  In addition, you also want to very wary of unbelievable or cheap deals.  More often than not, these so-called “special deals” are offered on inferior products, to lure the customer into the business.

Lastly, once you’ve decided to purchase a hot tube or spa, take the time to research the many brands available so that you will get the best hot tube to meet your budget, as well as your needs.
